In my time at the IfA, I've had the opportunity to particpate in many different outreach activites. Highlights include:
- HI STAR - I've served as the extragalatic mentor for the HI STAR Astronomy Summer Camp on Maui. This program provides week long
astronomy projects for middle and high shcool students, as well as the opportunity to compete in the state science fair.
- Maunakea Scholars - I am currently one of the project proposal mentors for Waipahu High School on Oahu. This program guides high school students through the process of
writing an observing proposal with some students being awarded observing time / recieving data from MKO telescopes.
- AstroDay Kona - I have helped plan and run activites for AstroDay Kona on the Big Island. This event provides various hands on activites, demonstrations, and solar telescope viewing for kids as well as adults.
- Community Stargazing - I have been apart of multiple community stargazing events. The most notable was a star gazing night hosted by Ohana Kilo Hoku at the Cat Santuary on Lanai.
- Akamai - I will be helping to desgin and lead an analog to digital activity for the Akamai program this summer (June 2024).
I'm always looking for new ways to engage the community and the next generation of scientists. If you have any outreach ideas or needs (particularly on Oahu), please feel free to reach out!
